Crystal Keys Reviews

BILL BINKLEMAN – New Age Retailer

Crystal Keys: Songs to Awaken & Heal Anchored by her angelic vocals, Lia Scallon’s latest recording in the Sounds of Sirius series explores the healing properties of assorted crystals, precious gems, and metals (“Pearl,” “Sapphire,” “Smokey Quartz,” “Ruby,” “Gold”) through her expressive Language of Light vocals and accompanying instrumental play by herself and others, most notably Mark Mannock’s excellent keyboards. Surprisingly diverse (e.g., the ambient-ish qualities of the opening “Pearl” flow into the flute and harp New Age melodies of “Sapphire”), the CD’s 10 tracks evoke a feeling of supreme centeredness and deep serenity and would be ideal for massage or meditation.

Crystal Keys – Songs to Awaken and Heal, the anticipated ninth album from internationally acclaimed New Age singer and songwriter Lia Scallon, heralds an important turning point in this artist’s musical compositions. The most notable difference is that here there are 10 tracks, instead of one extended composition. However, as with her earlier works, each track is longer than a conventional song. The other noticeable difference is that of the melodic backdrop. Scallon’s previous compositions are remembered for their sweet and ethereal melodies, combined with her spoken word in an intriguing, imaginary language. In this latest recording however, Lia’s vocals are accompanied by the musical contributions of a range of superb musicians – accompaniment that greatly compliments these new and beautiful melodies.

Crystal Keys offers us a ‘key’ to accessing the inner self. Each track on the album is dedicated to a well-known crystal, each one given a very individual musical interpretation. The common goal however, is to help the listener to connect with his inner self, by creating a sense of great comfort and peace. With her powerful and mysterious voice, Scallon achieves this beautifully.

A deep listening of this interesting album from this great singer is highly recommended. Each note of Crystal Keys flies, reaching the ears to caress the senses and seduce the soul. This new approach from Scallon will open up for her a much wider range of supporters, who I can assure you, will find much enjoyment in this wonderful recording, which will help them to envision a life filled with optimism and peace. An absolutely superb album – highly recommended!

Among the hopeless emptiness and darkness
A voice is heard that awakens spirit

This music is penetrated with myriads of thin vibrations intertwined into a transparent lacy cover. It wraps around you and begins a delicate healing of your suffering soul.

These divine melodies help you to attune your vibrations and to harmonize them with space vibrations. And the enchanting vocals of Lia Scallon play the most important part in the rehabilitation process. You can achieve total relaxation in which the deeper states of consciousness are accessible.

But it would be hardly possible without the unusual musical background. Soft keyboards, meditative Crystal bowls, Indian bells, Tibetan bowls, hypnotic didgeridoo and many other unique instruments create perfect surroundings.

The music of “Crystal Keys” opens the space channel and connects you with it. You feel yourself a single whole with the entire Universe. You are just an integrated part of existence, a piece of God.

I’ve often wondered how spiritual music can be described. The answer is easy and at the same time very difficult. Listen to the “Crystal Keys” and you realize what spiritual music is.

MUSIC AND MEDIA FOCUS – MICHAEL DIAMOND

In retrospect, after the release of “Crystal Keys,” her ninth album of sacred music, it must seem like another lifetime in which former actress Lia Scallon shared the stage with the likes of Cate Blanchett, Glenn Close, and Liam Neeson. However, a higher calling has led her on another path, devoting her life to spiritual pursuits and awakening consciousness. Born in Ireland and graduating from Trinity College Dublin, Lia has been living in Australia where she has achieved great success and recognition that is now becoming worldwide. Having once written a review in Awareness Magazine about one of Lia’s earlier Sounds of Sirius releases, I was familiar with her unique talents and looking forward to experiencing the evolution of her music.

The album’s subtitle – “Songs To Awaken & Heal” goes a long way in describing the intent of its creator. In her words: “Music is a Universal Language that transcends all language barriers. It can bring body, mind, and spirit into harmony and balance. Sacred music and chants, for example, have been known to charge and harmonize us, on all levels. From the Pythagoreans and Plato through to the Renaissance, music was used to heal the body and to elevate the soul. Both artists and scientists believed earthly music to be but a faint echo of the heavenly Harmony of the Spheres.” Hence, this concept is not without historical precedent and is being embraced by a new generation of musicians and healers at a time of great awakening on our planet.

The soul-stirring sound of Lia’s crystal clear voice at times evokes the ethereal ambience of fellow Irish-born recording artist Enya, although with it’s own distinctive quality and sense of purpose. One will notice right away that the chants and lyrics are not in English, nor are they in any other language they might be familiar with. Lia describes her inspired vocalizations as a “Language Of Light.” She goes on to say: “the soul seems to recognize what is being said and is stirred into remembrance of its true origins. As the listener responds intuitively to the melodies and words, they find themselves enfolded in a cocoon of peace and relaxation.” It’s easy to close your eyes and imagine yourself in the healing temples of ancient Egypt.

It took me a moment or two to adjust to not recognizing or understanding the meaning of the words on a conscious level – the mind likes to make sense of everything. However, after surrendering to the unfamiliarity, I began to let go and experience their rhythm and vibrations on a deeper level. It was not long till I felt an appreciation that I didn’t have to conceptually process their meaning and could just feel the flow and the loving intention behind the sounds. Supporting Lia’s vocals are a number of talented musicians with extensive and impressive music industry credentials that collectively include touring or recording with Yanni, Tina Turner, Annie Lennox, Joni Mitchell, British folk-rock group Steeleye Span, and more. Although used subtly and sparingly, instrumentation features keyboards, flute, didgeridoo, Tibetan and crystal bowls, gongs, chimes, and a variety of percussion.

The theme, as implied by the title “Crystal Keys,” delves into the gifts and the energies of the mineral kingdom. The album is divided into ten tracks, each of which focuses on a different crystal or mineral such as sapphire, amethyst, clear quartz, emerald, ruby, etc. Accompanying the CD is a beautiful full color booklet that gives affirmations and describes the inherent quality of each stone. I enjoyed reading the words as I listened to the music to reinforce its healing effect. Having first heard it on stereo speakers and then on headphones, I found that the experience was definitely enhanced through headphones where the vibrations of Lia’s sacred harmonics seemed to resonate more and penetrate to deeper levels of Being.

Just as there is great variety in the color, shape and properties of each stone, so is there a spectrum of sounds that go with each one. From the powerful, grounded, earth and fire energy of Ruby to the warm meditative glow of Citrine, as well as the more lyrical, Native American-like rhythmic chant of Sapphire, and my favorite, Amethyst, with it’s longer dreamy sounds and harmonic overtones, each song, like the stone it represents, reflects diverse facets.

Samples of the CD can be heard on Lia’s website, along with some beautiful video creations. As mentioned earlier, there is a sense of purpose to this music. It is not created for “entertainment” as much as it is intended as a tool for inner attunement and uplifting the spirit. If this is the kind of experience that appeals to you, Crystal Keys may just unlock the doors of perception and provide a glimpse beyond.

KEYS AND  CHORDS

Lia Scallon is a great singer and star who was born in Ireland but now lives in Australia. At one point in time she was an actress sharing the stage with Liam Neeson, Cate Blanchett, Glenn Close and Frances McDormand, but her creative talent eventually led her in a different direction. In 2002 she released the first of the eight albums from her Sounds of Sirius label. These are musical meditations that heal the soul, with their energy of calmness and peace. The CDs were released for the first time in the US and Europe last year, to immediate and positive response.

It’s been said that the soul intuitively responds to the melodies and words of the Sounds of Sirius, which could be described as the original language of the soul. Lia’s latest CD revolves around the crystal kingdom. The music contains codes of Light, like those used by priests in the sacred sound chambers of ancient Egypt, Atlantis and Lemuria. These are now available once more with this CD, each track of which carries vibrational messages. Every track has been dedicated to a specific crystal or mineral such as pearl, sapphire, amethyst etc. The enclosed booklet tells you all about this.

Lia gathered some notable musicians around her for this production, such as David Jones, Mark Mannock, David Hudson and Nigel Pegrum. When I hear her music and voice I cannot help but think of Enya. The lyrics are in the ‘Language of Light’, which makes it easy to imagine that you are in Ancient Egypt, inside the most sacred part of a temple. Let yourself drift with the music.

Lia, your voice sounds like that of an angel, singing words I cannot understand. You have truly created a work of beauty that heals our stressed minds and bodies.

MAINLY PIANO  – KATHY PARSONS

NEW AND EXCEPTIONAL! Crystal Keys: Songs to Awaken and Heal is the ninth release from Irish-born new age singer/songwriter Lia Scallon. Singing and chanting in her own “Language of Light,” Scallon tells of the healing energy within each of ten Master Crystals, giving each of these crystals their own track on the album. Scallon says that these songs carry coded Messages of Light from the crystal kingdom which have the power to unlock the doorways to your heart and soul, helping the listener to awaken and heal at the deepest levels. “In ancient times, these Light codes were available in the sacred sound chambers of Egypt and the legendary Crystal Healing Temples of Atlantis and Lemuria, where priests and priestesses used sacred sound to unlock the healing energies, information, and Light held within the crystalline realms.” Scallon’s goal with this recording is to make these crystal Codes of Light available to us again. I have to admit that this is all a bit over my head, but I’ve been enjoying the music nevertheless. Scallon’s voice is strong yet soothing, and her melodies are graceful and often compelling. She is accompanied by an impressive group of musicians that includes David Jones on Alchemy Crystal bowls, kalimba, drone, Indian bells, Tibetan bowls, floor tom, gongs, and Om chimes; Mark Mannock on keyboards and piano; David Hudson on didgeridoo; and Nigel Pegrum on flute and keyboards. The liner notes include an insert that quotes each of the Crystal Masters, telling their stories – a very impressive package.

The first crystal to “speak” is “Pearl,” representing innocence and purification. Ethereal and uncomplicated, it’s a truly refreshing piece that includes a rhyming poem in the middle spoken in Scallon’s mysterious language. “Sapphire” brings truth, peace, and calm, and its song is also very soothing. “Amethyst” represents humility, and Scallon’s voice reaches to the heavens in this one supported by minimal accompaniment from the other musicians. “Clear Quartz” represents light embodied, and this song is hauntingly beautiful. Piano and keyboard washes add color and depth to the almost mournful vocals. “Ruby” is the spiritual warrior, and this piece is strong and passionate. “Diamond,” light body, has a very spiritual song that is accompanied by the ringing of bowls. Very hushed and understated, listeners should be in a very deep state of relaxation as the album comes to a close.

Crystal Keys is a very interesting and enlightening musical journey. It is available from Amazon, iTunes, and CD Baby, and https://soundsofsirius.com. Check it out!

JUDY HALL – THE CRYSTAL BIBLE

“Lia’s beautiful vocals immerse you in the language of the crystal oversouls. Her haunting music takes you into an ever-deepening meditative state, for an all-encompassing crystal experience. This is the perfect tool for expanding crystal consciousness. I highly recommend it.”

ROTCOD ZZAJ

You can probably glean from the CD cover that this July 2011 release isn’t jazz. As you listen to the opening track, “Pearl“, you’ll know right away, that you are hearing sounds of enlightenment and energy. It is this energy that allows me to review it here (my prime criteria for reviewing music here is “energy”, not “genre”).  Whether or not you approach such things from a religious perspective, you will enjoy this music, I’ve no doubt – I certainly did. 10 joyous excursions into the healing side of music that we should make mandatory listening for anyone entertaining the idea of political office. My personal favorite was the slowly evolving sound tapestries on “Clear Quartz”. For listeners looking for something “more” in their music, this comes MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. “EQ” (energy quotient) rating is 4.96.  Get more information at www.sonicbids.com/liascallon

RAJMAN REVIEWS

The latest album by Lia Scallon is supposed to channel the crystal keys to the bodies, hearts, and minds of listeners. I don’t know anything about crystals or their healing powers, but I do know that the music on this CD is captivating and soothing and provides a therapeutic experience in itself.

Each of the tracks is named for a particular type of crystal. I don’t know the significance of a specific melody or sound or vocal accompaniment by Scallon to a given crystal. That’s a matter best left to crystal experts and enthusiasts, who no doubt will understand and appreciate what Scallon has offered up here.

However, the important thing underlying all of this is the music, and in this respect Scallon’s undertaking is accessible to all, crystal aficionado or not. The background music is created with keyboards, synthesizers, didgeridoo, and other modern and traditional instruments and stands on its own. Scallon’s hypnotic, otherworldly vocals add an extra, ethereal dimension to the music that both transforms and transports the listener. Also, rather than actual lyrics, Scallon’s vocals are more like sounds and utterances, intonated in a soft-spoken timbre that comforts and reassures, setting the mind at ease.

So even if crystals are not your thing or you know nothing about them, but you’re looking for a relaxing mental getaway and like tranquil instrumental music and exotic vocals, you can’t go wrong by this album.

NEXUS MAGAZINE

Lia Scallon is a singer, sound healer and channeller. On her ninth album, Crystal Keys, Lia’s voice and music carry coded crystal key sounds to unlock doorways in the heart and soul, helping us wake up to a new Earth consciousness and heal at the deepest levels. In ancient times, these codes were produced in the sacred sound chambers of Egypt and the temples of Atlantis and Lemuria. Lia provides information about each key sound, to help us tune into these powerful crystalline frequencies for healing and upliftment. Her superb vocals carry us to great heights.

BORDERLAND – UK

One of the key tenets of new age music is that it heal wounded souls and provide a positive charge against the negativity of modern life. The subtitle of Lia Scallon’s new album Crystal Keys is “Songs To Awaken and Heal”, and it seems to be ready-made for that task. Over ten tracks Ms Scallon utilises her expressive voice in a variety of chants and vocal gymnastics, set against a series of drone-like or low-key melodic sequences.

The musical palette is a rich one, featuring instruments from the mystical Far East and Aboriginal Australia: Crystal bowls, kalimba, chimes, keyboards, didgeridoo, flute, bells and Tibetan bells. The musicians performing on the album are: David Jones, Mark Mannock, David Hudson and Nigel Pegrum. The track titles are: Pearl, Sapphire, Amethyst, Smokey Quartz, Citrine, Clear Quartz, Emerald, Ruby, Gold and Diamond. The tracks are names after the colour of the alchemy crystal bowls used on the album.

The sleeve notes make much about expanding your consciousness, and that music similar to this was used in the healing temples of ancient Egypt, Atlantis and Lemuria – well, I’ll let you make your own mind up about that. You really need to be a spiritual person to receive the benefits of this music, I’m not and I have to admit it didn’t really appeal to me. However, if you have a need for spiritual music to help in your healing process then I suggest you visit the website listed below and explore any sample tracks there.
